[PRESS RELEASE]

Guardsman® Dusting Cloths Earn asthma & allergy friendly® Certification

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) has announced that Guardsman® Dusting Cloths have earned asthma & allergy friendly® Certification.

The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program, an independent program established in the United States by AAFA with their partner ASL, helps consumers identify products more suitable for people with asthma and allergies. The program performs physical and chemical testing on products to ensure they reduce allergen exposure and limit irritants and pollutants in the air.

“Guardsman Dusting Cloths are one of our most popular and effective cleaning products,” said Adam Davidson, Sales and Marketing Manager for Guardsman US LLC, “and we are extremely pleased to have independent laboratory testing confirm the extent to which they can trap and remove dust and allergens from the home.”

Dust is an accumulation of small particles that includes hair, skin cells, animal dander, dirt, pollen, decomposing insects, fibers and more. If you have asthma and allergies it is important to use a dusting cloth that cleans hard surfaces and traps the dust instead of spreading it around or sending particulates into the air.

The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Mark is awarded to products that are scientifically proven to reduce exposure to asthma and allergy triggers. Guardsman Dusting Cloths are important cleaning products that must meet the program’s strict standards to be awarded the Certification Mark.

“A regular cleaning regime is essential to improving indoor air quality. Our rigorous testing ensures that hand held dusting products and wipes effectively remove allergens from hard surfaces helping to improve the indoor environment.” said Dr. John McKeon, CEO of ASL. “We are delighted that Guardsman has passed our strict testing standards and are providing high quality CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® cleaning products to consumers.”

Guardsman Dusting Cloths were evaluated for:

  • Their capability to remove allergen and particulate matter from hard surfaces while minimizing airborne allergens.
  • The accumulation of the allergen on the product following cleaning, demonstrating that allergens are removed from the surface and not just redistributed.
  • The presence of toxic constituents and the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOC) to ensure low toxicity.

“Guardsman Dusting Cloths are a welcome and much-needed addition to our program created to benefit those with asthma and allergies,” said AAFA’s President and CEO Kenny Mendez. “Americans, on average, spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors, so having a clean indoor environment is important to controlling asthma and allergy symptoms.”

Hi, and welcome to the community, Allison! I know that some of AAFA's members do use essential oils if it doesn't aggravate their asthma. This would be a great new topic to start on the community!

Thank you, and also thank you to the other individual that reminded me of Borax too; it sounds familiar. I definitely agree with using as little soap as possible too; plus it saves money when we don't add a washer pod to our washing machines when it doesn't do much of anything anyway! Yes. I am glad to hear that essential oils are used by some members and, as I learn more, I will be glad to post about this with links etc. within the awareness that I am sure everything I read about their use and misuse may not all be accurate or applicable to all members reading. Really glad to become part of AAFA and this group. One of the first things on my list is to replace our HVAC filter with one suggested here on the AAFA site -- we all have to start somewhere

This is great to know about when considering future cleaning at home. I am also interested in how to use quality essential oils in laundry loads and as a diluted spray to help minimize dust mites. I have read on numerous sites that oils such as peppermint, lavendar, and eucalyptis have shown promising results when stored and used correctly and in minimal amounts so as not to be an irritant. By chance have any companies such as Do Terra or others that make essential oils applied to be tested with AAFA yet? Or, do you have any related articles on this topic? Thank you again for sharing the Guardsman dusting cloths.

Remember “Borax”? Grandma loved it, & it’s still around (check grocer, or local hardware.) A quarter cup per load, kills mites in laundry! It is an excellent cleaner & polisher of nearly everything, read the box. I use a teaspoon in bottom of dishwasher loads to rinse more thoroughly. Remember to use as little soap as possible, to protect our water supply. Usually a quarter to half what is called for, is plenty of soap to get the job done. Try using less toothpaste too, about 1/4 of what they show on TV ads.
