The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) conducted the My Life With Asthma survey to highlight the challenges people with asthma, especially severe asthma, face. We found that people with asthma have concerns beyond their physical health. Many deal with fear and worry.

In fact, 78% of people with uncontrolled severe asthma say asthma is always in the back of their minds.

Asthma can disrupt sleep. According to our survey, 42% of people with mild or moderate asthma deal with sleep disruptions. But 79% of people with uncontrolled severe asthma had trouble with sleep.

If you wake up often during the night due to asthma, your asthma may not be under control. Follow the Rules of Two® to find out if your asthma is under control.

Use the Rules of Two® to tell if your asthma is well-controlled.

  • Do you take your quick-relief inhaler more than two times a week?
  • Do you awaken at night with asthma more than two times a month?
  • Do you refill your quick-relief inhaler more than two times a year?
  • Do you measure your peak flow at less than two times 10 (20%) from baseline with asthma symptoms?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, talk to your asthma care provider.

Rules of Two® is a federally registered trademark of Baylor Health Care
System. Used with permission.

Asthma can have a financial impact too, especially among people with uncontrolled severe asthma. Asthma is a common cause for missed work days. And many people can't afford their asthma medicines, so they aren't able to keep their asthma under control.

If you can't afford your asthma medicines, there are some options that may make them more affordable

More Than Asthma

May is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. This year, we want to dispel myths and help others see beyond the disease. We are raising awareness about how asthma and allergies are more than just physical conditions. They impact every aspect of life. But they don't have to define you. Show us how you are #morethanasthma.
