A Higher Education in Self-Management: Sending Your Teen With Asthma to College

When you send your teen off to college, you aren’t just sending them off to get a degree. You are also sending them off to learn more about adulthood and self-management. This is especially true if you have a teen with asthma.

No matter how you prepare them for these next steps, nothing matches real-world experience. Once on their own, teens often realize there is information they need to know. But when managing asthma away from home, they need to know what to do before they need a doctor or have an asthma episode or attack.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) has created a series of videos for teens with asthma who will be starting college or are in their first year. Each animated video is short and easy to understand.

The development of these videos was supported by an educational grant from Sanofi Genzyme and Regeneron.
