On Oct. 17, 2019, Representative Elijah Cummings (D-MD) passed away. Representative Cummings was an influential voice in support of people with asthma and allergies.

“Today, AAFA mourns the loss of Congressman Elijah Cummings,” said Kenneth Mendez, CEO and President of AAFA. “As a longstanding champion on asthma and allergy issues, his efforts on the House Asthma and Allergy Caucus were crucial to improving lives in our community. Representative Cummings’ work to better the health of those suffering from asthma will be recognized and appreciated for years to come. We are sincerely grateful for all he did in the asthma and allergy space and will continue to honor his memory by encouraging lawmakers to pass the Family Asthma Act (H.R. 4622), co-authored by Rep. Cummings.”

AAFA is grateful for lawmakers like Representative Cummings who understand the importance of laws that protect people with asthma and allergies. Representative Cummings will be missed.

Although I did not know Mr. Cummings personally, I know his work has touched my son and I's lives and I just want to express my condolances and my appreciation for all his work, especially in those like us with asthma and allergic diseases. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
