Happy December! Welcome to your November advocacy update. I’m Jenna Riemenschneider, Director of Advocacy at the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA). Check out our September/October advocacy update if you missed it.

AAFA Attended Meetings on Schools and Air Travel

School-Based Allergies and Asthma Management Program Act (H.R.2468)

We met with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s (D-MD) office, one of the lead co-sponsors of the bill, to discuss next steps. This bill would put protections in place for children with asthma and allergies. Stay tuned for exciting updates early next year! You can find out more about this bill and contact your representative using our simple online tool.

Epinephrine Auto-Injectors (EAIs) on Planes

AAFA is committed to getting EAIs on all planes. In our ongoing work on this issue, we met with Senator Cory Gardner’s (R-CO) office and staff from the Senate Commerce Committee. Mark Vieth, our government affairs representative, also attended a Senate briefing on EAIs with other allergy advocates.

Emotional Support Animals on Planes

On Nov. 25, U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) staff hosted AAFA and other disability advocacy groups. We talked about the struggles our communities have with air travel and what is being done to fix them. We shared how hard it is to travel when you have asthma and/or a pet dander allergy.

We’re working together to ensure people are treated fairly when it comes to their disabilities – and not favoring one disability over another. This group will meet twice a year. We look forward to working with them to ensure safe and fair travel for all.

AAFA Signed Onto Letters for Clean Energy and Access to Generic Medicines in Medicare Part D
