[Press Release]

CHICAGO, April 20, 2017– In a joint effort to educate consumers about bedroom allergies and allergen-reduction solutions, Protect-A-Bed and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) have partnered on a national campaign to raise awareness of household allergens.

“Allergy season has come early this year, but it’s important to remember that allergies can last all year inside the home,” says Melanie Carver, AAFA’s Vice President of Community Services, “One of the most allergen-prone rooms in your house is the bedroom, due to the bed harboring dust mites. Reducing allergens in the bedroom can ease allergies and reduce asthma triggers.”

Protect-A-Bed’s AllerZip mattress and pillow encasements are effective solutions for reducing allergens lurking in the bed. AllerZip products completely wrap the mattress, box spring and pillows with a protective layer of waterproof Miracle Membrane®, a flexible barrier that stops liquids, dander, mold, bed bugs and dust mites – a leading allergen trigger. Certified by the AAFA, and backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal, AllerZip has been rigorously tested and is proven to reduce the number of allergens in the bed.

“According to a recent study by the Better Sleep Council, allergen control is now the 3rd most important item when consumers assess mattress construction,” says James Bell, CEO of Protect-A-Bed. “We know that no mattress is 100% allergy-free on its own. That’s why we’ve taken great care to design AllerZip to prevent allergens and pests from entering or exiting the mattress or pillows.”

The promotion, planned to launch in May, will include an expert column by Dr. John McKeon, CEO of Allergy Standards Ltd. in USA Today’s Allergy and Asthma special segment, a social media campaign, product giveaway, and a national promotion, available through hundreds of retail stores, that provides AllerZip encasement purchasers with two free AllerZip pillow protectors.

AAFA will be sponsoring an asthma & allergy friendly ® certified product giveaway during the month of May. Visit the @AAFANational Facebook page to enter.

“The average person spends 25 years of their life sleeping in bed, and unprotected beds can lead to a lot of time spent exposed to allergens,” says John Rachid, President of Protect-A-Bed. “Partnering with AAFA on this promotion can help bring awareness to just how much reducing allergens in the bedroom can improve quality of life for asthma and allergy sufferers.”
