Dust mites and mold are a big problem for me when traveling, especially in Europe, so I travel with a large plastic drop sheet (the light type painters use) to wrap around a hotel mattress if it looks as if it might harbor dust mites, and have an inflatable pillow. It is very stressful to always be on the alert for asthma and allergy triggers. Too many times have I stayed in a hotel and ended up spending the night in the bathroom because the AC filter had not been changed in aeons and it was not possible to open a window. How many times have I had to clean a dusty holiday rental before being able to sleep without problems, or sleep in freezing weather with all windows open as a place had residual mildew ?? This is why the rental accommodations I manage in Italy are allergy-sensitive, and allow NO pets. Guests/families who suffer from the most common types of asthma/allergies should be able to travel stress-free ...
