They will still live in your sheets, pillowcases and blankets, but with regular washing with hot water, you can keep the numbers down. Do Antibacterial mattresses make a difference? I've had things I knew I was allergic come up negative on blood tests but positive on skin prick tests and obviously positive when exposed to the allergen. From what I understand there is a difference in allergic responses that isn't always picked up on blood tests, and also that sometimes an allergen has more allergenic components in it than what is looked for on a specific ige blood test but that do often pick up on the skin prick test. Excellent question. There's more than one type of rhinitis (or nasal allergies). Allergic rhinitis is caused by an allergen (for example, pollen or dust). Non-allergic rhinitis is caused by other things like chemicals or a deviated septum (i.e. physical nose defect) to name a few.
I agree masks just do not work to stop dander allergy. Mine is skin as well-- I break out in hives, eyes itching, and those reactions cause eosinophils (inflammatory blood cells produced in response to allergen exposure) which cause my entire allergic disease to flare up and causes vasculitis (blood vessel inflammation) and can damage organs (eosinophils surrounded my heart and caused a heart attack at age 28).
