No one likes to say this to people.. Doctors don't like to say it, but I got so ill from living with cats I was allergic to that I really wish I heard it earlier than I finally did. Now my case was severe-- but it didn't start so severe.. I took a medication called Singulair and it worked so well I thought it was magic, I had like no reactions. I moved in with my then boyfriend who had cats after starting it (I had went to my doctor asking if there was something I could take because my then-...
@Arle , inhaling wood smoke is not good for anyone's lungs. Regarding whether or not wood smoke is worse than the smoke produced from other things that you could burn (e.g. paper, plastic, leaves, etc.) --the answer depends. Whenever you burn something, byproducts are created. Burnt wood results in things like water, carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur oxides (SOx), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). Burnt plastics release things like hydrochloric acid, SOx, dioxins, furans, and heavy...
@Tia74 , I have some general recommendations (below) for you based on what you've shared so far, but I believe I would be able to give you better advice based on your specific situation if I had a few more details. If that's of interest to you, please contact me at the AAFA Support Center via phone (800-727-8462) or email ( info@aafa.org ). Recommendations: If you live in a home where you have access to the HVAC filters, you should make sure they are being replaced when they're dirty If you...
The Humidity is lower in the Midwest. The western part of the Midwest. I've been monitoring the climate. I think this will help me. My allergies are stronger in the fall. I figured moving to that area would be good. In addition isn't there something called the 'honeymoon period!'? Kind of like: it takes a while for new allergies to start up? I'll keep my home in michigan and just leave once or twice a year.
SMJ - I would not recommend you to move, because whatever you are allergic to could be in the area you want to move. Have you had your home tested to see what you are breathing. I had the same issue and I too removed every chemical from the home but it kept getting worse. When I finally got my home tested, I had mold in the walls and in HVAC that was circulating all over the house, dust mites in the beddings and furniture and also the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) from furniture, even...
I tried everything for my allergies and asthma flareups - like got rid of pets, changed hardwood all through, changed all cleaning and other products to chemical free / organic. the only thing that's left is moving out of this home and it has been under radar for the past 4 years, but not sure where to - or just moving out of this home might even help
Hi smj - can you explain what you mean about being dependent on an air purifier? Indoor air quality is impacted by many things inside our homes as well as the outdoor air quality. Indoor air can be 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air especially if you don't have good ventilation throughout your home. When choosing an air purifier , it's important to understand the numbers to make sure you get a unit that is right for the size of the room. AAFA has an asthma & allergy friendly®...
Thank you Mink Naro. What kind of home test are you suggesting and also would you kindly post what purifier you are using, we did try dyson and one another - micro something, but forget, but just got scared of getting dependent on that, I am guessing my home could certainly have mold, but how do i get it tested, once we got HVAC tested and they scared us so much, installed something centrally, which we are not even sure if it is working, he did not leave any box, receipt nothing, this was...
This info came too late for me, but I am so glad to get info for another time. I was not in good shape and didn't realize it, etc, etc. I had my first ever actual asthma attack in 25+ years as a result. Fortunately it occurred the day after I arrived home, and I was able to be treated by my own providers.
Gerry - happy to hear you were home when it happened and are okay! High altitudes can be so deceiving, I know I always underestimate how it'll effect me.

Grants? funding from an agency? I need help getting these things for my home and can not afford it
