Blog Post CommentI just bought several great mufflers/scarves so I can walk outside in cold weather without symptoms of cold weather affecting my lungs. I bought the Octr Mistral Skube, which is sold at ski shops. It is a light nylon tube that has elastic and a cord so it can tightened around the nose. It doesn't fall down like an ordinary scarf.

Blog Post CommentNancy, the mistral skube sounds great! I hope it really helps you this winter.

Blog Post Comment❤️Interesting note about how very cold air even affects other animals' lungs. In this case horses! 🐴 Mid-Rivers Equine Centre - Combat Lung Damage In Cold Weather Edited to add screenshot of link for those who aren't on FB - CRR - 12/16/2019

Blog Post Comment❤️Remember “Borax”? Grandma loved it, & it’s still around (check grocer, or local hardware.) A quarter cup per load, kills mites in laundry! It is an excellent cleaner & polisher of nearly everything, read the box. I use a teaspoon in bottom of dishwasher loads to rinse more thoroughly. Remember to use as little soap as possible, to protect our water supply. Usually a quarter to half what is called for, is plenty of soap to get the job done. Try using less toothpaste too, about 1/4 of...

Blog Post CommentThank you for such a great article, a lot of useful info. I will be glad if someone could advise me air purifier for smoke from the list? I never used one, but decided to give it a try. My budget around ~150$. Share your experience if you ever used one. Thank you.

Blog Post CommentUlt1Mat3x, based on the link you had, I would suggest talking to your doctor and beginning your search with the Aeromax 300 . It's the only one on your list that is asthma & allergy friendly® CERTIFIED. The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification program helps people make informed purchases for a healthier home. The program tests household products against strict standards. If products pass certain tests, they earn the CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® mark.

Blog Post Comment👍Hey there! Firstly, I have to mention that your article has been very insightful and helped me discover everything about pollution allergy . It has been rampant especially in our locality as a couple of new factories have come up recently. Lately, my husband has been showing symptoms caused due to air pollution. His continuous sneezing, nasal congestion, and itchy and red eyes have been my concern for pretty long. As you mentioned, I guess we will have to see an allergist at the earliest so...

Blog Post Comment❤️Thank you for sharing Debbie and thank you aafa for highlighting this importabt topic. I was just reading about a study done by USC in which the air pollution declined 20 percent over a 20 year period and it corresponded with a 20 percent decline in new cases of children's asthma-- which provides strong circumstantial evidence that reducing air pollution reduces illness. We are all sharing the air. I try very hard to limit travel to necessity only, drive a car with good gas mileage, and buy...

Blog Post Comment❤️Thank you Shea, for your concern in this matter. It certainly is an important issue. We should all do our best to try and eliminate air pollution!

Blog Post Comment❤️Love to hear how this Mom is using the alerts to help her better manage both her and her sons asthma. The Air Quality Flag Program sounds like a great idea and hope more schools join.
-
Blog Post Comment❤️It really helps. When I get the alerts and he takes his inhaler before recess or outdoor gym, he almost never has any issues.

Blog Post CommentWhich means more fun and play time with his friends!
-
Blog Post CommentExactly! That's the most important thing to him. It's a win win... I get a healthy kid, and he gets to run around with his friends!

Blog Post Comment❤️Lisa - I'm glad this has made a difference for you and your son.

Blog Post Comment❤️I may need to start tracking this for myself - especially for when I bike!

Blog Post Comment❤️I had to retire early because I had almost constant asthma attacks from fragrance. I feel much better since I can now avoid most of them.
-
Blog Post Comment❤️Our family suffers from asthma triggered by fragrances and other chemicals. We are so happy you are informing people that wearing fragrance or products/clothing that emit fragrance are deadly for many people with asthma. We cannot go anywhere where we cannot leave if someone were to come in the room with "fragrance" known to be toxic chemicals. Most importantly, our hearts break for children who are trapped in a classsroom all day. Many laundry detergents/fabric softners emit persistent...

Blog Post Comment❤️@jjtre I hear you about all of the scents these days. Walking down the cleaning aisle of the grocery store is like an assault on my senses. @5starbabez Welcome to posting. How do you avoid your allergens? Do you carry epinephrine?
-
Blog Post Comment❤️I’ve never thought of improving the air quality at my work because I don’t get the right support for anything so I didn’t bother asking. I don’t have food allergies but I have a lot of environmental allergies and I take Flonase, Zyrtec, Fluticasone, Eye drops, and Benadryl at night just to sleep. I’d probably be a great candidate for Xolair! I also have asthma. It’s been interesting to say the least!
-
Blog Post Comment❤️@RSkalak , hugs on the lack of support from work. It sounds like your environmental allergies are tough to manage! The Asthma and Allergic community forums are a great place to get support from folks who have been there and done that!

Blog Post Comment❤️This is really great. Growing up, my elementary school had mold issues and they continued to grow until my siblings went years later and by then so many people were getting ill that they shut that school down. If they give schools the tools they need to improve indoor air (awareness and money to make the changes happen), so many children and families will be positively affected.
-
Blog Post Comment👍Sounds great. May I also suggest some investigating and some stricter enforcement procedures on H.U.D.S. smoking ban that is a failure in many cities across this country. Providing a clean teaching invironment is important but many children will return home to often worse indoor air quality where they live. To truly help the health of all children, they need healthy air at home as well as school. ailurimprovementon

Blog Post CommentFinally a serious legislative action on this problem. We all know air quality in schools is horrible and this is now becoming an even bigger issue with Covid-19. There should be good air purifiers in every school.
-
Blog Post CommentHello! I am trying to get in touch with an advocacy group regarding the air quality in some of our entertainment venues in Lake Charles, Louisiana. While there is a smoking ban in much of the state at casinos, bars and restaurants, there is no ban on smoking in our Lake Charles casinos - and there is no reason for that! Considering I have asthma and most of my work social events and meetings take place in the casinos meeting rooms, I struggle breathing for days after those meetings. Can...

Blog Post Comment❤️A question - Since I assume dust mites are also in our cars' upholstery and interior, how often should we vacuum our cars? Thanks!

Blog Post Comment❤️Lisa, that is a great question. I will see if I can find that out for you.

Blog Post Comment❤️Lisa, this would be a great question for Ask the Allergist.

Blog Post CommentWhat is the best room air purifier for removing mold and dust from indoor air. I suffer from asthma and am looking to purchase for the upcoming winter months. Mold and dust are my primary allergies. Also how can you determine if there is mold in your home? I have a bedroom where windows were replaced several years ago and has a musty smell.
-
Blog Post CommentInteresting since I just learned I’m allergic to fragrance set number one.
-
Blog Post Comment❤️Blah blah blah. Probably just a numbers game. Wonder who requested the test. Too many tests are geared to get the answers they want and not true results. The same amount of oxygen does go through a mask, but with breathing issues, it is harder to pull the same volume of air through it. Kind of like a vacuum cleaner trying to suck a rag though. Any activity with a mask on I am huffing and puffing very hard and my chest starts hurting severely. Same activity without a mask, no issues.
