Quite often. My husband and I look for parks in NC and VA to walk. This one was along the Tar River in Rocky Mount NC. Love the hike as well as taking pictures in these settings.
I take prednisone. The warnings included with prednisone caution about live vaccines: " Do not receive a "live" vaccine while using this medicine. Prednisone may increase your risk of harmful effects from a live vaccine. Live vaccines include measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), rotavirus, typhoid, yellow fever, varicella (chickenpox), zoster (shingles), and nasal flu (influenza) vaccine." Perhaps I should avoid the flu shot ?
Hi, William! I would talk to your doctor about receiving the flu shot. I know my doctor encourages me to get a flu shot every year. You can get a flu vaccine that is NOT live. Here's what the CDC says about the flu vaccine :
Hi @William - it's the Flumist nasal flu vaccine that has the live virus. The flu shots do not. It's always good to discuss with your own doctor what treatment is best for you. Are you always on Prednisone? Or just when you have an asthma flare?
I would just like to say I have been diagnosed with asthma along with copd and early stage emphysema.... I have never smoked but have lived with smokers during my childhood... their smoking has condemned me to a certain outcome of death... i have gotten bronchitis every year for the past 35 years, walking pneumonia and whooping cough..... pollen aggravates my allergies and I have not slept more then 4 to 5 hours a night because of the coughing for the past 5 years..why do i have to pay the...
Thanks for the edit Kathy P. For those who commented, Woodbridge is a lovely old place to visit. It's less than an hours drive from where I live. The white building on the far right of the photo is an old tide mill originally used for grinding wheat, now a working museum. There has been a tide mill on the site for over 800yrs. Across the river from where I took the photo is the Sutton Hoo burial ground. Anyone interested in ancient English history could follow this link for further reading...
I pray for the family and for all those suffering with allergies and asthma. It is difficult to live with every day. It is difficult to watch and care for someone living with it. I wish I could snap my fingers and cure us all. But, education and awareness does save lives and help. Planting (female, allergy-friendly trees) helps. And research helps. I am so sorry to the family of Austin and the community, you are in our prayers.
I am new here and new to allergic asthma. I have had allergies all my life, but asthma for only a year or so. I am trying to find some helpful information about some practical things I can do to manage my symptoms. The doctor gave me the diagnosis, but I am left on my own to figure out how to live with it. I am glad to find this community.
If you live in Texas and are concerned about these incidents, you can visit AAFA's Action Center to send a letter to your state legislators and the school district superintendents. Send a Letter to TX Legislators or the School Administrators
In this article it talks about the possibility of "cold dry air" causing an asthma attack. Does this also apply to cold "moist "air as I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and am surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean
I am trying to quit smoking but have to say that 25 feet OUTSIDE is a bit much. Very few people smoke....so it;s not exactly a smokestack outside. Smoke is bad I agree but many disabled people cannot get 25 feet and live in public housing. I see both sides.
I've been going to pulmonologists, ENTs ,Allergists , holistic options , over and over again for 3o years. Asthma just got worse. Chronic cough. Even went to Cleveland Clinic Cough Clinic. Cough would never stop. Tried all drugs prescribed. Did test for gerd twice. DiD Everything and was compliant. Been going to salt suite near me for past 3 weeks- hour and half day and I HEAR the silence of not coughing ALL the time and lungs feel not as tight. No other changes so I'm sticking to it.
Misdiagnosed from ages 5-8. Finally diagnosed during a hockey game by an EMT and sent to asthma specialist. Recently played in my 500th ice hockey game. With proper maintenance and use of inhalers I am controlling asthma, not being controlled by it. Do what is recommended by your specialist, but especially put in the work. Work every day to be the best you can, exercise your lungs, live life to the fullest and always move forward.
Thank you for sharing Debbie and thank you aafa for highlighting this importabt topic. I was just reading about a study done by USC in which the air pollution declined 20 percent over a 20 year period and it corresponded with a 20 percent decline in new cases of children's asthma-- which provides strong circumstantial evidence that reducing air pollution reduces illness. We are all sharing the air. I try very hard to limit travel to necessity only, drive a car with good gas mileage, and buy...
No. You shouldn't. It is basically abuse to the allergic person. I have been the allergic person and it got so bad that after chronic exposure even doing all the strategies above and with antihistamines I developed asthma symtoms and shortly after went to the hospital because I thought I was having an asthma atrack turns out it was a heart attack caused by allergic blood cells called eosinophils surrounding my heart and choking it. I was diagnosed with a severe chronic allergic disease. My...
It definitely helps for me and maybe more people who Asthma should be required to live by the ocean. I mean maybe this is something that should really be considered by lawmakers because it is all so hurtful for me dealing with my condition.
@Jen We are really good about using our exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathroom. Also, we purchased a dehumidifier this summer, which has really helped keep our humidity down. Without it the house sits around 60-70% humidity in the fall and spring. We also redid our kitchen in the beginning of the year and discovered a lot of mold behind sink and under dishwasher. Next are the bathrooms! (We live in a old house)
What I dont like about it is that it made me feel less important to people than their pets and that for many years I also treated myself that way and put myself around animals that made me suffer so badly until I had a heart attack due to allergic eosinophils surrounding my heart and choking it, then I took it seriously but still others dont and I struggle to stay strong and remember what happened to me so that that never happens to me again and its difficult because friends get dogs and I...
Hi, @Martha Anne ... the flu virus IS a sturdy thing. The CDC says that the flu virus can live on a solid surface for 24 hours , but it's also important to remember HOW the flu gets past our defenses. A big part of that is how often we touch our eyes, nose and mouth, and also how close we are to people. Frequent hand washing and avoiding touching anything "north of the chin" are what my doc recommends. I remembered exactly how hard that was this weekend when I attended a college tour this...
Very informative! I've just read the related article about humidity recently https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325474.php . We don't live in a wet climate, and my son suffered because of dry air. We bought an ultrasonic humidifier to help him breathe easier, but at that time we hadn't known that the humidity level should be 40-45%. So the humidity in our room was around 55%, and my son’s health has not only not improved, but has also worsened. Thanks to our Dr, he explained to us how...
Lynn, thank you for coming out of the closet and educating others on the struggles we face. You are a warrior and inspiration. My workplace environment has come a long way since I spoke out. It was hard to do at first but now everyone knows. People come up to me to warn me about the elevator or stairway or bathroom when there are perfumes used (policy violation). One thing you didn't mention is the fear we live with....fear of another bad attack or fear of being out with a flare and not...
i am new to all this computer stuff what does this do am allergic to scents cigarette smoke food dyes and colors , alot of cleaners and perfumes, have hayfever and do not live in a bubble yet
I live in the mountains my problems are with the apartment complex moving in smokers who have to smoke outside and the drift coming in my apartment with my doors and widows closed and scents from cleaners and I think diffusers and I have had a few days where I was not able to leave my patio it was so bad I am demanding under the ada to be accomodated and having to go through fair housing. I already know how tl control my asthma, allergies and epilepsy otherwise, management just says I have...
Sounds great. May I also suggest some investigating and some stricter enforcement procedures on H.U.D.S. smoking ban that is a failure in many cities across this country. Providing a clean teaching invironment is important but many children will return home to often worse indoor air quality where they live. To truly help the health of all children, they need healthy air at home as well as school. ailurimprovementon
My pharmacy manager was very helpful, as always. My husband will be picking up a ProAir inhaler for me this afternoon. I can get Albuterol ampules on Monday. I need refill authorization. I want to be sure I don't run out of Albuterol, due to my condition, and where I live. Add in the fact that pollen plays a role in this.I do not want to end up in the ER due to not being able to breathe.
This is my youngest son, Travys. He was born after his oldest sister died from an asthma attack. Travys was not expected to live passed his 5th birthday due to the severity of his asthma diagnosis. He turned 12 on March 9. This picture was taken as he overcame his fears and went for a climb at the Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.
