Are My Symptoms Due to Asthma or Lingering Effects of COVID?

Title Image
Question
I was recently diagnosed with post-COVID asthma. I have had continued wheezing, coughing, and fatigue since having COVID a few months ago. Are my symptoms due to my original asthma or the lingering effects of COVID?
Answer

Your continued wheezing and cough could be due to both your original asthma diagnosis and the lingering effects of your recent COVID-19 infection.

Several studies have shown that COVID-19 can worsen asthma if you had it before you got the virus. It can also significantly impact asthma control. Also, people with asthma have a higher risk of having post-COVID-19 respiratory symptoms for many weeks after infection. This includes cough and wheezing.

It is important to track both conditions to improve your lung health. Talk about your symptoms with your doctor. They can help you create an effective management plan.
