Thank you for sharing Debbie and thank you aafa for highlighting this importabt topic. I was just reading about a study done by USC in which the air pollution declined 20 percent over a 20 year period and it corresponded with a 20 percent decline in new cases of children's asthma-- which provides strong circumstantial evidence that reducing air pollution reduces illness. We are all sharing the air. I try very hard to limit travel to necessity only, drive a car with good gas mileage, and buy...
Having to go off meds for testing is miserable. I'm off antihistamines this weekend in preparation for more allergy skin testing next week. Let the begin! How did the challenge go? Do you have any tips for dealing with being off meds or for the challenge itself?
it's hard to win a legal case w/ severe mold infestations when civil court judges do not believe in toxic black mold causing human diseases. a nyc hpd housing court judge - JEAN T. SCHNEIDER threw out my foreclosure hearing WITHOUT EVEN HEARING STATEMENT FROM MY DEFENCE LAWYER - NOT onr SINGLE SENTENCE FROM MY LAWYER LAST WEEK.! all she wants are to close cases rapidly with no word from the defence ! scary-victims have no rights against her favorite big time landlords. On Mon, Oct 15, 2018...
Love to hear how this Mom is using the alerts to help her better manage both her and her sons asthma. The Air Quality Flag Program sounds like a great idea and hope more schools join.
My child was diagnosed with Cough-Variant asthma at the age of 2. She has been on steroids since then and she is 9 and she is only at 57 lbs. Right now she takes Advair 250/50 two puffs twice a day, singular and a nasal spray. She has had an allergy test completed and everything came back negative. We have to go back to the allergist in October. With her being negative on all 22 test, how do I go about protecting her. When she has a flare-up, we do her normal meds, treatments twice a day,...
Our family suffers from asthma triggered by fragrances and other chemicals. We are so happy you are informing people that wearing fragrance or products/clothing that emit fragrance are deadly for many people with asthma. We cannot go anywhere where we cannot leave if someone were to come in the room with "fragrance" known to be toxic chemicals. Most importantly, our hearts break for children who are trapped in a classsroom all day. Many laundry detergents/fabric softners emit persistent...
I suffer from asthma and eczema both my dad had it but now he doesn't i do i try my best to stay away from grilling and smoke and perfumes and foods that i get allergies from like fish and wheat and oranges and more u should never take these easy u should always be a wear of what u eat and sleep and breathe so take care and i am only 14yrs old but take care
@jjtre I hear you about all of the scents these days. Walking down the cleaning aisle of the grocery store is like an assault on my senses. @5starbabez Welcome to posting. How do you avoid your allergens? Do you carry epinephrine?
I’ve never thought of improving the air quality at my work because I don’t get the right support for anything so I didn’t bother asking. I don’t have food allergies but I have a lot of environmental allergies and I take Flonase, Zyrtec, Fluticasone, Eye drops, and Benadryl at night just to sleep. I’d probably be a great candidate for Xolair! I also have asthma. It’s been interesting to say the least!
@RSkalak , hugs on the lack of support from work. It sounds like your environmental allergies are tough to manage! The Asthma and Allergic community forums are a great place to get support from folks who have been there and done that!
Jade just started her first round of Xolair Injections this past week. She's SO brave! But...I have to admit...It was a bittersweet moment; watching her sit there, calm, asking the nurse to count slowly for her, watching the needle, as she was given both injections. Outside of respectfully saying that it "kind of hurt, a lot", she didn't complain, or cry, or move, or refuse, or scream...she just sat still and watched! As a mom, this was a like a dream come true...at first. [{Sidebar} At this...
Yes she pretreats but still has issues so outside doesn't work at all. She has been able to take a Dane class for 30 mins a week. Hoping the summer allows her to do two 1 hour sessions a week. Congratulations on your daughter's black belt. That's awesome. We are inspired.
I live in the mountains my problems are with the apartment complex moving in smokers who have to smoke outside and the drift coming in my apartment with my doors and widows closed and scents from cleaners and I think diffusers and I have had a few days where I was not able to leave my patio it was so bad I am demanding under the ada to be accomodated and having to go through fair housing. I already know how tl control my asthma, allergies and epilepsy otherwise, management just says I have...
This is really great. Growing up, my elementary school had mold issues and they continued to grow until my siblings went years later and by then so many people were getting ill that they shut that school down. If they give schools the tools they need to improve indoor air (awareness and money to make the changes happen), so many children and families will be positively affected.
Sounds great. May I also suggest some investigating and some stricter enforcement procedures on H.U.D.S. smoking ban that is a failure in many cities across this country. Providing a clean teaching invironment is important but many children will return home to often worse indoor air quality where they live. To truly help the health of all children, they need healthy air at home as well as school. ailurimprovementon
Finally a serious legislative action on this problem. We all know air quality in schools is horrible and this is now becoming an even bigger issue with Covid-19. There should be good air purifiers in every school.
Hi TiffYG2133 - I'm sorry to hear you were not able to get your Ventolin inhaler refilled at the pharmacy. Is your pharmacy rationing them? How often are you needing to use Ventolin? If you are using it more than twice per week, that is an indication that your asthma may not be well-controlled. If that's the case, you should let your doctor know so they can adjust your asthma treatment plan . If you don't have a sufficient supply for Ventolin left, you may want to talk to your doctor to let...
No it's not well controlled and adjusting my asthma treatment plan will not do a **** thing to improve it, my lung function is only at 25% I'm also on Flovent and Spiriva and singulair all for my asthma and it's still not controlled I use my ventolin many times during the day, and go through 1 rescue inhaler every 15 days, and no matter what my asthma doctor puts me on it has not improved, my asthma was under control when they made the Maxair autoinhaler but since they stopped making it I...
@Maku @Marcia Z Ball When I tell you what helped me so much you’re gonna kick yourself. So last week I noticed I had the skin peeling in between my fingers, on top of my hands, on the underside of my hand (my open palm) on the tips of my fingers ... just everywhere! I will attach a pic. It doesn’t look terrible bc I caught it at the beginning bc I can’t take it. I noticed tht when I wash my hands or used hand sanitizer they would burn from the small cuts. I went out and bought Lubriderm. $5...
I take cardboard boxes apart for use in Alfie’s cage. I clean out the messy ones every other day, all of it at least once a week. I use painters masks when cleaning. I use one until it comes apart.
Hello! I am trying to get in touch with an advocacy group regarding the air quality in some of our entertainment venues in Lake Charles, Louisiana. While there is a smoking ban in much of the state at casinos, bars and restaurants, there is no ban on smoking in our Lake Charles casinos - and there is no reason for that! Considering I have asthma and most of my work social events and meetings take place in the casinos meeting rooms, I struggle breathing for days after those meetings. Can...
