Up until 2 weeks ago, I took prednisone only for a cold or flu symptoms . Also I had started on Stiolto 3 months ago, replacing Alvesco and Spiriva. My doctor recommended the change. I should have researched it. I had used Symbicort, then Advair, then Breo all with the same results: quite pronounced chest pains after a few weeks on the new med. The first time resulted in extensive testing, focusing on potential heart problems, but with numerous other tests for physical, chemical, even...

WWe are most grateful for this article! My lungs do not know the difference between "essential"oils and other fragrances AKA chemicals. Please consider using the standard that NO smell is the good smell...we need to breathe unadulterated air! Rid our environment from chemical odors found in personal products, detergents/fabric softener, plug-ins, household cleaners and the like. Additionally, our children will benefit from a clean air environment!

They went well - Wahoo! Flights are so nerve wracking. We have only flown Southwest and since we have had good experiences, it has become our preferred airline. The first flight, there were a handful of people pre-boarding with us because they had peanut allergies too. Our second flight, the pilot told me that our previous flight also had a peanut allergy passenger so they did not serve peanuts on the flight before us. Southwest did not serve peanuts and since we were able to pre-board, I...

In this article it talks about the possibility of "cold dry air" causing an asthma attack. Does this also apply to cold "moist "air as I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and am surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean

This was an awesome post. It is funny, I personally love reading about spring and summer cleanup's because of the before and afters. It is often looks like a bigger mess than it really is. Once it is all cleaned out though, it looks spotless and the effort is well worth it. Here is another similar article I read recently that outlines the importance of Spring Clean-Up just like this one. Give it a read and let me know your thought Spring and Summer Cleanup Summarized

I am really upset about these standards for pollution. I just read an article today called " EPA admits new emissions plan could lead to 1,400 premature deaths a year AUG 21, 2018 6:12 PM EDT U.S. BY JASON SILVERSTEIN / CBS NEWS : "A 289-page EPA report released Tuesday provides details on the impact of the Trump administration's Affordable Clean Energy rule, which would reverse Obama-era cuts to power plant carbon pollution. The EPA acknowledges that the proposed plan is expected to...

Hello to my fellow advocates and sufferers. Let's keep this conversation going. I have been unable to travel by air for the last 4 years due to airline polices regarding service animals and emotional support pets. We must be considered and or rights protected as well. Let's keep the conversation going and hear from more of you that have been affected. Let On Tue, Oct 8, 2019 at 3:26 PM Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America < support@aafa.org> wrote:

I have to say that I am very disappointed by the response by AAFA.. It is not enough to simple be "distanced" from an animal on the plane, In addition to the danger of being subjected to animal hair and dander on seats and carpets, these dangers are also circulated through the aircraft ventilation system, thus making distancing ineffective. We are not just in danger from the current flight we are boarding but the multiple, previous flights that have accommodated animals.Planes are being...

Hi Dawn, I am sorry you were disappointed in our response. We are continuing to work with the DOT as part of a disability working group and agree that all passengers have a right to safe travel. It is incredibly challenging to accommodate multiple disabilities on an aircraft, but we feel that this rule will significantly reduce the fraudulent use of emotional support animals. We will continue to engage with the DOT to ensure equal accommodation for the asthma and allergy community. Best...

I agree with Dawn on the issue. While every side can claim discrimination, possible life threatening issues should come first. I do see far too many people using "emotional support" as just a way to get their pets into stores and other places. Service animals should be registered as such and businesses should be able to legally ask for registration (NOT the reason for the animal). On another note, it would be great if airlines would limit or stop crews from using perfume and other scents.

Hey there! Firstly, I have to mention that your article has been very insightful and helped me discover everything about pollution allergy . It has been rampant especially in our locality as a couple of new factories have come up recently. Lately, my husband has been showing symptoms caused due to air pollution. His continuous sneezing, nasal congestion, and itchy and red eyes have been my concern for pretty long. As you mentioned, I guess we will have to see an allergist at the earliest so...

Interesting. I have read lots of places that essential oils can be used to reduce mold and dust mites and open airways. I use eucalyptus and tea tree aLOT... I hope I am not causing my asthma problems... I KNOW a lot of candles trigger my asthma, and cleaning chemicals like bleach and chlorine, that is why I look to alternatives with essential oils that I thought were not as harsh but could keep the air free from molds, mites, and other irritants. I do not think I have had problems with...

I was out in Oregon recently visiting my father. The Eagle creek wildfire started while I was visiting. 50 days without rain, heat waves and wildfire was started by a teenager and fireworks. A shame. But I didn’t let it ruin my visit. My dad doesn’t have air conditioning and it made it a little more difficult to sleep at night but they had a ton of fans so that was helpful. I also doubled up on my allergy meds in inhaler so I didn’t have any flare surprisingly well I was out there! We even...

I am in Oakland and the smoke was so bad here that I stayed indoors for a week, with the house sealed and the air purifier on. When asthma symptoms started, I would use acupressure points to prevent attacks from progressing. It works amazingly well.

Thank you for sharing Debbie and thank you aafa for highlighting this importabt topic. I was just reading about a study done by USC in which the air pollution declined 20 percent over a 20 year period and it corresponded with a 20 percent decline in new cases of children's asthma-- which provides strong circumstantial evidence that reducing air pollution reduces illness. We are all sharing the air. I try very hard to limit travel to necessity only, drive a car with good gas mileage, and buy...

Thank you for this news. We must hold the airlines responsible for or safety and rights while traveling. I also have suffered from acute asthma since birth. I can no longer travel by air and have lost all rights due to the allowance of ESA on flights. I understand the rights of American with disabilities and the need for service animals This is a totally different issue. The last time I was on a flight, I heard a meow coming from a womans shoulder bag. She had a cat that was not seen. I can...

Hi, Dawn! You are certainly not alone, and AAFA realizes the struggle that you and so many, many members of our community have experienced. Currently, AAFA's advocacy team is pursuing a meeting with Airlines for America (the Airlines’ trade association) and the Department of Transportation to discuss the issue of pets on planes. AAFA also supports a bill in the US Senate, Air Carrier Access Amendments Act of 2019 (S.669), that is meant to protect the rights of passengers with disabilities in...

The bedroom should be kept allergen and asthma trigger free. It may be difficult, but it is important to try! When we are lying down, our breathing problems often worsen. That is why we should have a clean and safe bedroom. We do need to get a good night of rest!
