I've found working with my doctor and chatting with the folks here on the forums have been my best resources. There is great topic "How did you #beatyesterday" where we chat about staying active while managing asthma - https://community.aafa.org/top...=lastReply#lastReply Here is another topic about "Finding a Workout that Works" - https://community.aafa.org/top...a-workout-that-works Are you looking for something in particular?

I am new here and new to allergic asthma. I have had allergies all my life, but asthma for only a year or so. I am trying to find some helpful information about some practical things I can do to manage my symptoms. The doctor gave me the diagnosis, but I am left on my own to figure out how to live with it. I am glad to find this community.

I think that these kids who were suspended knew what they were doing better than the school officials. They were administering inhalers, not injecting epinephrine. I think a sit down conference with the students involved, their parents, the medical staff at the school and the school administration to review the situation is what should have occurred. I do not advocate sharing medications at all; I am a pharmacist and am well aware of the problems with that. However, before we knew my daughter...

Ult1Mat3x, based on the link you had, I would suggest talking to your doctor and beginning your search with the Aeromax 300 . It's the only one on your list that is asthma & allergy friendly® CERTIFIED. The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification program helps people make informed purchases for a healthier home. The program tests household products against strict standards. If products pass certain tests, they earn the CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® mark.

Shea, I think this would be a great discussion to have with your doctor. It's tricky sometimes figuring out exactly what is triggering our asthma, but by keeping a detailed journal, we can uncover patterns of what makes our asthma worse and what makes it better.

This is very true! I didn't really understand it myself until my own asthma because more severe. Have you seen AAFA's Severe ASTHMA Care course ? It's a free online course to help people with severe asthma. As you said, treatments alone don't always keep asthma in control. There is also identifying and reducing exposure to triggers.

I hope your challenge went well! Share your results? My methacholine challenge was negative, so no asthma diagnosis, my doctor stopped treating me for asthma symptoms, and he cleared me for SCUBA training.

While I know that I am in the tiny percentage of the population who has a strong negative reaction to the Methacholine Challenge test, I want to offer one caveat. About six years ago, I had chronic cough and my doctor thought I might have asthma so he had me take the Methacholine Challenge test. Taking the test turned my, as yet unknown, asthma into moderate-to-severe persistent asthma. Hope no one else has this experience but it is something to consider.

Also, could you check with your doctor and let your doctor know that, due to cost, you are not able to take your medications as directed? Your doctor may be able to help you figure out alternative medications. AAFA has a great blog post series on complementary medicine. The first blog post in the series is called: AAFA Explains: What Is the Difference Between Alternative and Complementary Medicine?

Thankfully my asthma has been mild up until recently. This was one of the last big things I did before my asthma went out of control and became severe. It has taken about eight months but I am finally close to getting my asthma controlled. However I am still considered to have severe persistent asthma that isn’t controlled but with the new biologic I am on I am finally getting to the controlled point and hopefully will soon be off prednisone. I have had to take time off to fully get control...
