@Carrottop50 That's really frustrating. I've run into issues where the insurance still denied coverage on a med even after the doc submitted the proper documentation. I'm currently fighting to get a nose spray covered. The one I want (had samples) works better than the others I've tried. Have you contacted the insurance company to ask if there is further documentation they need? What is the appeals process? Is there a patient advocate you can speak with? Has the doc considered trying the...
I have asthma. This morning I went to a friend’s home and they had their essential oils diffuser on. I don’t know which essential oil they were using, but within 5 minutes of breathing it my lungs felt like they were on fire and I couldn’t breath. Once I got outside I started to improve. I had to use albuterol because I was still struggling to breathe. I’ve always heard positive things about essential oils, but after doing a little research today, I’ve decided not to diffuse them in my home.
Are there albuterol inhalers other than Ventolin by GlaxoSmithKline? The last 4 or 5 that I have had seemed to have been faulty. I'd like to try a different brand.
Hi Suzique, Welcome to AAFA's asthma support community. Yes, there are other brands of albuterol. If you are interested in trying one of them, I would talk to your doctor to discuss what would be appropriate for you.
Trust me, GSK is not doing this out of the goodness of their hearts as they don't have hearts. Just another greedy pharmaceutical company bilking the american public. They are probably losing market share to TEVA Pharmaceutical who is based out of Jerusalem, Israel. TEVA got FDA approval for a bunch of generic drugs back in early 2018.and makes a both a commercial and generic version of an albuterol inhaler that is available now in the USA. I lost my job and insurance back in Dec 2017 and...
I just did a quick lookup using goodrx.com for the Generic of ProAir® HFA (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Aerosol and it costs about $26 with their coupon at Walmart, Publix and CVS. Last time I bought a Ventolin without insurance it was $70 so the TEVA version is about 1/3 the price of Ventolin Same lookup for the highest dose of the Generic of AirDuo RespiClick and it comes up between $52-$60 using the goodrx coupon as well. Last Advair Diskus I bought without insurance was $236 with a...
Thank you for posting this very important information. Since my asthma is not well controlled, and I have COPD, I feel it is best to call my pharmacy manager this morning to find out when I can refill my Albuterol inhaler and ampules.
My pharmacy manager was very helpful, as always. My husband will be picking up a ProAir inhaler for me this afternoon. I can get Albuterol ampules on Monday. I need refill authorization. I want to be sure I don't run out of Albuterol, due to my condition, and where I live. Add in the fact that pollen plays a role in this.I do not want to end up in the ER due to not being able to breathe.
I am so thankful I switched to the nebulizer Albuterol before the virus spread. I am now getting both a new tabletop nebulizer and a portable nebulizer to take with me on the go. They're the Pulmo-Aide Compact nebulizer compressor and the Traveler Portable Nebulizer Compressor respectively. Hope this helps others that are afraid of running out of their rescue inhaler.
TiffyYG - do you have the option of nebulized albuterol instead of the inhaler? If your doctor is aware of the amount you use and the limit placed by the pharmacy, maybe that would be an option to check in with him about.
AAFA, would you please intensify and increase the advocacy efforts to get dogs out of public buildings on behalf of us who have severe dander-triggered asthma? We still have to shop at grocery stores for essential items like food and paper products and the dander in these stores will necessitate albuterol usage that would not otherwise be necessary if people's pet dogs and fake "service" animals were not allowed in stores! I've had to "waste" my albuterol nearly every time I enter one...
Hi Laurie, Thanks for commenting. We are of course aware of the growing number pets in public spaces and the negative impacts on those with severe dander-triggered asthma. We actively advocate to Congress to ensure that the needs of the asthma and allergy community are considered all the time, but especially in this time of crisis I know you are aware of the current proposed rule on Traveling by Air With Service Animals and we believe this is a good first step in recognizing the fraudulent...
On April 16, 2020, we updated this blog post to include the following: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a generic version of Proventil HFA, a commonly used albuterol inhaler , to help with the demand for albuterol. AAFA has also asked the FDA to address albuterol shortages due to COVID-19 .
Before I do any physical activity, especially snorkeling, I take my albuterol about 15 minutes before the activity to open my lungs and prevent them from constricting. It also helped to wear a wet suit so I didn’t feel the effects of the cold water. The snorkel guides also knew I had asthma and had my medication on deck ready to use in case of emergency, but I ended up doing great!
I pre- treated with my albuterol. I did not make it a race. I walked instead of run to conserve. I took my time and focused on one obstacle at a time! Prior I exercised only when I could.. which wasn’t a whole lot!
I believe this is a critical, and often overlooked, aspect of treatment and applaud your efforts. However, I think there’s a major flaw in your survey - it asks only about short courses of oral corticosteroids, and not higher dosages. For asthma patients like me, with severe, hard-to-impossible to control asthma, short courses haven’t been effective in 25 years. In addition, I now have some of the worst possible long-term side effects of steroid use because of having been prescribed an...
Hugs, Debbie ... those are some good points about people with severe asthma. I know many of our members have had to be on much higher doses for long periods of time. It is a hard struggle.
Corticosteroids have saved my life numerous times, but the cost - that’s been much higher than I ever imagined. It was learning how cavalierly some physicians dispense them, without ever properly educating patients/families about side effects - even at times lying about the severity of them - that shocked me the most, and made me determined to do what I can to educate everyone. And to see new and effective treatment protocols and drugs finally made available. Given the number of people with...
When I had my last asthma attack after the breathing treatment I was also given 60 mg of prednisone in the ER and was sent home with a script for 40 mg a day for 6 days. 2 weeks later I was given another round of 40 mg a day for 5 days.
Debbie, have you started on Fasenra? I have eased symptons on Prednisone, actualy the best when on IV steroids,Solumedrol. Unfortunately both the side effects and the fact that we can't live on these causes me to struggle. I have been on many (nearly all I think) types of new things that come out over the years. My pulmonary Dr is my primary. I would say I am not controlled at this point as I may have a few good weeks, then something triggers it and I am in terrible shape for months at min...
Hi, Linda- I’ve had my first Fasenra injection in June and am hopeful, even more so since I’ve now also been diagnosed with eosinophilic emphysema (mild/moderate, so far, but showed up fairly quickly on my latest CT - the Fasenra may stop the eos from causing further damage). I assume you have eosinophilia and your doctor’s determined that is your primary cause for your asthma? I have Hyper Eosinophilic Syndrome (atypical) and the eosinophilic asthma is relatively recent for me. I have such...
