In an effort to best take care of me when purchasing a plane ticket is, I buy business class. This is obviously at a height cost to me and I feel it’s unfair. But, animals are not often in B/C. It’s beyond sneezing and itchy eyes. My asthma kicks in. It becomes very hard to breathe. I understand people have animals for various reasons (medical and otherwise). I do not however feel they should be allowed in the cabins sharing the same air quality as us human beings. Is it really worth the...
Welcome @TE . It's good to have you here joining in the conversation. In the forums, the most recent discussion is animal dander on airplanes . Hope to see you there with your ideas.
I had to wear a mask for hours on Wednesday. Now it is Friday. My ribcage still hurts. But I am afraid to be without a mask. I am afraid of fines and assault. People have threatened me. People say, (Real Loud) "People without masks should be drug out and shot." I have begged our politicians to say something. I have tripled my asthma meds. I get my groceries delivered. This year needs to end.
We updated this blog post on Oct. 26, 2021, to include a video on air cleaners, information on COVID-19 and proper air ventilation, and the impact of air pollution on COVID-19 rates.
I wish more people would be mindful of the impact that having animals present for trick or treat has on people who have to avoid the animals. Too many people bring their dogs, in particular, to trick or treat. Animals should not be present, including coming to the door of a house that participates in the event. It is an event for kids and their parents to enjoy and celebrate, and they should not be worried that an animal will cause an allergic reaction. This has gotten much worse over the...
@Ironmom316 - Makes an interesting point. Having talked with the 4 doctors monitoring my bone disease, allergies, the doctors & myself decided getting the COVID-19 vaccines & flu in 2021 shot would help prevent me from getting seriously ill. I read all the truthful medical research documents, saw the results from medical research hospitals, thankful I got the vaccines.
There is not enough research to make such a claim. Yours is an opinion and the study guidelines should be indicated to include how many people were in the study, their medical history, etc. This is not the forum to encourage people to get this shot. @Kathy P I did purchase it . I got it to try because Of the promise of allergy free and no scent . I think it works well . However the bottle needs to be reworked . It leaks easily from the top . Also when you pour you need a funnel . Or it comes out way to fast . They should of designed it better .
Good news! My sister, my 91 yrs mom & myself, have made appts at our local Walgreen's pharmacy to get the COVID-19 booster shot. So important as the COVID-19 variants are circulating currently in FL with increased seasonal visitors.
Awesome!! Raising awareness and "Creating a Baseline" for both IAQ and touchpoints (Pesticides) is key for safety and health inside the schools, hospitals, workplace as well as residential homes.
Please consider immunization if you haven’t yet received your shot. There are a lot of rumors and disinformation floating on the web and social media. If you have questions or fears, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist!
Thanks for commenting, Brenda. I wasn’t aware that all tires are made of latex now — I thought that had stopped decades ago with artificial substitutes. i’m so glad to know that’s not true!
As a little girl in the 70s When I was given Penicillon , my little teeth went brown. Does this mean I was allergic to it and does that mean I am still? I have Athma and have had it since I was 4. On Thu, Mar 10, 2022 at 10:16 AM Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America < support@aafa.org> wrote:
Hello @Ingrid and welcome! There are certain antibiotics like tetracycline that, when given to children during the early years of tooth development, can cause browning of the teeth . This is not an allergy to the medicine. Tetracycline is now not given to kids under 8 because of this effect on their teeth. Here is more information on drug allergies .
Well, My son is 16 years old and when he was younger he had a reaction to a penicillin medication and ever since then, the doctor said he is allergic to penicillin, without doing any other testing. Recently I took him to allergist office and they will be performing a Penicillin test that will be given orally to him, I will pick up from the pharmacy azithromycin and asked not to be mixed, and they will be given in the office 3 different doses to see if he is truly allergic to penicillin. Is...
This is awesome information that we can hand out to our clients from a credible source. My husband and I operate an air duct cleaning business. We live in Michigan, so we get a lot of humidity and people often forget to turn their humidifier off after the winter. We have witnessed black mold and very poor indoor air quality in the majority of homes here. Our main goal is to help improve indoor air quality and raise awareness. Thank you for writing this article.
Welcome to the AAFA community @Amberlee84 . You may also be interested in 3 Ways Humidity Affects Asthma . Would you consider starting a new topic about using your HVAC to manage Asthma triggers? That would be a fine addition to the Asthma Support forum.
Absolutely love the graphs/charts! Living in Michigan the pollen here is an astronomic amount. Once again, we bring allergens in if we open a door to our home or it can be on our clothes and recirculated in our HVAC systems. Everyone waits for Spring here in Michigan, but along with climate change comes allergies.
And many of us, especially the disabled, cannot afford these expensive items. It's hard enough affording the inhalers, biologics, oral meds. How about we make asthma care affordable!!
I take a daily allergy medication. I am struggling with when to take it. I seem to have horrible allergies early in the morning and again in the evening as the sun sets. I have pretty bad seasonal allergies but it seems like I cannot get relief during the transition time between environmental allergies. I have only been prescribed one-a-day meds for allergies. Does something exist that is more than once a day to combat my morning and evening allergies? Thank you!!!
Hi! So one thing that took me MANY years to understand is the value of using a spacer. I have multiple friends with asthma that I have tried to convince to use a spacer. Is there a "short" answer you could give as to why using a spacer is beneficial? I always just have to say, "I don't know it just does make a difference."
Welcome, @NKristin . It's good to have you here with your question. It also may be worth exploring our sister site https://community.kidswithfoodallergies.org It's another login but worth the many posts on amoxicillin reactions.
My 3 year old had an ear infection. She was treated with amoxicillin. She was still running fever after 5 days. It was at 104 at one point and hard to control. The doctor then switched her to omnicef. After the second dose of omnicef she woke up with hives in her diaper area. It then spread under her armpits, feet, hands, knees and elbows. The next day her knees were swollen and she had knee pain. Her pediatrician suspected it may be a serum sickness reaction. He sent me to an allergist. The...
