"Have family members without asthma get the flu shot to protect those that do have asthma". Why? Isn't it enough that the person(s) with asthma get the flu shots?
Yes, Jen's exactly right. Plus, the Centers for Disease Control says this about who should get the flu shot: My DH isn't a fan of shots, but he gets his shot every year to help protect me and our daughter -- side benefit is that he hasn't gotten the flu himself since he started getting an annual flu shot. Could you talk to your doctor about what your doctor's recommendation is for flu shots when it comes to your particular family? Your doctor will know your situation best.
What an incredible way to honor your beautiful son's life. Meredith, I am so inspired by your courage and strength to use this tragedy to bring awareness to others. You are one amazing mom. Thank you for sharing Austin's story, and yours. Blessings to your family as you work to protect the lives of other children with asthma in his honor.
Remember “Borax”? Grandma loved it, & it’s still around (check grocer, or local hardware.) A quarter cup per load, kills mites in laundry! It is an excellent cleaner & polisher of nearly everything, read the box. I use a teaspoon in bottom of dishwasher loads to rinse more thoroughly. Remember to use as little soap as possible, to protect our water supply. Usually a quarter to half what is called for, is plenty of soap to get the job done. Try using less toothpaste too, about 1/4 of...
Hi, Dawn! You are certainly not alone, and AAFA realizes the struggle that you and so many, many members of our community have experienced. Currently, AAFA's advocacy team is pursuing a meeting with Airlines for America (the Airlines’ trade association) and the Department of Transportation to discuss the issue of pets on planes. AAFA also supports a bill in the US Senate, Air Carrier Access Amendments Act of 2019 (S.669), that is meant to protect the rights of passengers with disabilities in...
Since when do pets take precedence over the health of humans? This is discrimination and is illegal. The Americans with Disabilities Act needs to be revised to address this discriminatory situation. Persons advocating for persons with asthma &/or allergies should call and/or write to: Civil Rights Division of US Dept of Justice, 950 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20530 USA, phone: 1-202-514-4609 and give them your story/case (asthma and/or allergy situation). Important to stress...
I contacted Amtrak through their website with an electronic message option in October 2018. I received no reply when I inquired about how they are accommodating passengers with dog/cat allergies and allergy induced asthma. It appears that the travel industry as a whole is putting profits before public health and safety. Also, I don't understand why the travel industry is not subject to make accommodations for a breathing disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act. I had an allergic...
I haven't been able to fly since 2011. I contacted the ACLU and they declined to take on the issue of pets being allowed on planes and trains without even the ADA standards in place to protect those of us with dander-sensitive asthma and allergies. It is very unjust how profits are being put before life and death health issues.
Unfortunately, the American Civil Liberties Union will not intervene in this matter with public transportation. The number you provided is a great course of action as is local state action.
Hi TexasBreakfastTacos - that looks miserable It sounds like you have tried your usual arsenal of treatments to try to treat and protect your hands. Do you use a "soak and seal" wet wrap on your hands?
Thank you for your continued advocacy on this. It does seem like we need to keep working on even more accommodations as I'm worried this still won't change the fact that more and more people are bringing animals onto planes, allowing them to sit on seats etc. Could we make any headway by looking at the root cause of the issue which is that the reason people want to bring their pets with them in the cabin is that they fear putting them in cargo? The main reasons they worry about the cargo...
I am heartbroken to hear what happened to Urainia. I will do as much as possible to advocate for those with asthma and I keep her and her family in my heart and thoughts and prayers. My son and I both face life-threatening allergies and I have asthma as well, and big reactions can come at any time-- these diseases are beyond tough, and we need our human team to bring greater awareness to the severe nature of reactions, and to preparedness, to protect our families.
