Hi @William - it's the Flumist nasal flu vaccine that has the live virus. The flu shots do not. It's always good to discuss with your own doctor what treatment is best for you. Are you always on Prednisone? Or just when you have an asthma flare?
@Maxmakc , what does your allergist or asthma specialist recommend about salt therapy? Is it part of a complementary medicine treatment plan? AAFA has a great blog post talking about the differences between complementary medicine and alternative medicine . Glad the salt therapy works for you. I guess there's no one-size-fits-all for everyone who suffers from asthma.
I was diagnosed with eczema when I was 25 and since then I’ve been dealing with this disease. For me, it has been really difficult to find a treatment that worked for my type of skin and eczema. The treatment that has helped me to heal my eczema is foderma, I recommend it.
Unfortunately, there is no incentive for properly conducted trials of salt therapy ... or any other non-conventional therapy ... for asthma. There is too much money at stake for big pharma! Being a breathing disorder, if you can't breathe, then you are in big trouble and the drug companies know that! When an Advair Diskus or similar sells for $400, something is very wrong! With my health insurance, I have access to regular medications, but with all the potential side effects of those...
Good point, Peach! In years past, during our Easter service, our congregation was encouraged to purchase Easter lilies to honor the memory of a loved one.
Dear Deborah, You have my deepest sympathy on your loss. Only another parent, like Meredith, can truly understand the loss of a child. Nothing we - or anyone - can say will make it easier. Nothing is going to replace your son, or make his passing less frustrating. But you may find that channeling your pain can help - not only for you, your family and friends, but all the other spouses, children, friends and colleagues who may be living with asthma, know someone intimately at risk, or may...

Great news! I just started Nucala for eosinophil-related asthma, but my disease (Churg-Strauss Syndrome) also effects my skin and sinuses, and Nucala so far had only been approved for asthma treatment--not sure if it will help my eczema and sinusitis, so I will look forward to this drug's approval.
Lisa, I'm glad your cough is better -- are you working with a pulmonologist or allergist now? What other medications besides Advair are you on? Feel free to start a new topic on our AAFA asthma support community so you can share your story and journey with us, or join in with a topic like dealing with irritants Recently diagnosed and trying to figure out treatment Explaining adult onset asthma to friends and family
Hi Kathy p. - we usually use a preventative for the week before and make sure that we don't stay in the cold too long. Often though we do end up having to do a treatment after we get home dur to the cold.
Thanks for sharing, it's so stressful to watch your child go through this and all so familiar as to how it was for me when young. I'd be fine but never realized how fast an attack could come on. My mom would listen to my breathing and count how many breaths or how fast my chest was going up and down. I was taken off of dairy and wheat, it did make a difference for me to do that. One thing that helps me now is to have a portable nebulizer that can plug into the wall or in the car, so I...
Definitely interested! There is an enormous amount of misinformation being disseminated about animal dander allergies, and appropriate treatment for asthma and allergies. There is a lot of work that can and should be done to help people understand the facts and the fair treatment of persons affected by these conditions.
The bill in my state passed in the House Committee. If it is voted to pass in the House, it will move to the Senate. It is a long process, but you have to begin by contacting your local House of Representatives rep for your area. Explain to him or her why a bill in your state is needed and ask him or her to look at examples of other states who are tightening up on the misrepresentation of pets as "service animals".
My state passed a bill making it a misdemeanor to misrepresent a pet as a service animal. Unfortunately, the law is nearly impossible to enforce since there are so many limitations on what can be asked to prove the animal is a service animal. Most businesses don't know the laws so they don't bother to ask. Many people continue to lie if they are asked because they know they don't have to provide any proof. I have requested to my State representatives that the ADA be strengthened so that...
Oh @Lisa H ! I am so sorry! That has to be very frustrating. Has she ever tried being on an antihistamine? for us if we can get our PND (post nasal drip) in control, our asthma can be better managed. pollen , dust mites and molds everywhere in the house from bathrooms, kitchen, etc creates havoc to the immune systems. On Wed, Mar 14, 2018 at 4:22 PM, Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America < support@aafa.org> wrote:
The main triggers for my 6 year old son and I are pet dander from cats, dogs, rabbits. By living in a dander-free home, his environmental allergies and eczema are much more under control with no medication. I also do a lot to keep the indoor air quality good-- weekly washing of sheets in hot water, mattresses and pillows in zippered cases, hepa air purifier in room. When I was young, I did not take my pet allergies seriously and they developed into a serious problem. So I think it should be...
Great Valentine's Day Tips! 💖💘💓💌 Yes. Be thoughtful and have a healthy holiday! A book of poetry and a cozy blanket that is safe would be great! A nice mug and a box of herb tea. A sweater that is safe to wear. A pair of slippers is always nice and comforting! For folks that are home bound, how about an adult coloring book and some colored pencils? A nice picture frame that has a picture of you and your sweetie in it! Have a Happy Valentine's Day! 😍
I love those ideas, AAFA and Deb! There are so many cool (non-traditional) gift options out there that can be fun to celebrate and dont bother asthma/allergies: video games, board games, DVDs, or books also make great gifts.
