How Long Do Viral Hives Typically Last?
Infections can cause hives, also known as urticaria, in some people. In fact, infections caused by viruses cause more than 80% of all cases of acute hives in children. The hives seem to show up as the immune system begins to remove the infection from the body. This sometimes happens one week or more after the illness begins. Usually, hives continue for about one or two weeks and then disappear. With this said, hives in some patients are gone within 24 hours.
