My allergies trigger my asthma. I hope everyone gets better. This is not fun.. The one place I want to be is outside. I am very limited to being out there. I am Thankful for for every breath I get to take..
Hi, JJTRE and welcome! I'm like you -- essential oils and scents can really trigger my asthma. We have a conversation going about how to deal with irritants that you might want to join in.
I just recently learned about pickleball TMF! Sounds fun! Sorry to hear you are experiencing asthma issues that are keeping you from enjoying your sport. When I started cycling, I really struggled with getting my asthma under control. I have exercise induced asthma and I seem to hit some wall around 20-30 minutes into a workout. I've had to work with my doctor to make sure that my asthma is under control and work out an exercise pretreatment plan to make sure I don't trigger an attack. I've...
Hi Sue and welcome! Did the doc give you an asthma action plan on how to track your symptoms? Do your allergies trigger asthma? Do you have those controlled?
Keep your house clean to avoid allergies. Check out for the cleaning products too which might trigger allergy in you. Now while you clean remember work from top to down, do one room or area at a time. Save your time by multi-tasking,make small repairs and invest in good rubber/vinyl gloves. Always dust before vacuuming. Buy mops with squeeze mechanism. Dont keep your brooms on its bristles. better to use swiffer for light dusting. Check out for some creative and easy tips on spring cleaning...
Wow, I was quite surprised and over joyed to have an advocate for those of us who have allergic asthma triggered by dog and other pet dander. Traveling has become quite difficult the last several years due to the direct contact with allergens that trigger sinus infections and asthma. Thank you so much.
Interesting. I have read lots of places that essential oils can be used to reduce mold and dust mites and open airways. I use eucalyptus and tea tree aLOT... I hope I am not causing my asthma problems... I KNOW a lot of candles trigger my asthma, and cleaning chemicals like bleach and chlorine, that is why I look to alternatives with essential oils that I thought were not as harsh but could keep the air free from molds, mites, and other irritants. I do not think I have had problems with...
So glad that your asthma is not triggered by dander allergies! What things do trigger your asthma? What do people say when they find out you have asthma? We have a new discussion going on ... " What do people say when they hear you have asthma? " What tips would you share about how to talk with people about asthma?
The bedroom should be kept allergen and asthma trigger free. It may be difficult, but it is important to try! When we are lying down, our breathing problems often worsen. That is why we should have a clean and safe bedroom. We do need to get a good night of rest!
It's my daughter but she has bad allergies too that trigger her asthma. She isn't very active because her asthma is triggered by physical activity. She's only rode her bike once this year and that was that day. We generally have a high pollen count so we had to make sure she was covered for her 30 mins of play lol.
Very cool. My middle 2 play lacrosse and *knock wood* no injuries yet, aside from turf burn. So...I take it that stinky athletes aren't a trigger for your asthma? I invite you to check out our forums. Stop in and tell us more about your asthma triggers .
Stinky athletes not a problem - it's when they have perfume and spray axe - so going into the locker rooms can be dangerous, but my athletes usually come running to warn me- And they regulate each other so that makes it less stressful turf burn is not fun ...
Hi Jeana - I hope your emergency medicine helped. Cold weather can be an asthma trigger . Dry and/or cold air is a trigger for airway narrowing (bronchoconstriction). One thing that helps is to wrap a scarf loosely around your mouth and nose. That helps warm the air before it gets to your lungs. We've actually been talking about this on the support forum - Managing your Asthma and Allergies in the Winter .

The main triggers for my 6 year old son and I are pet dander from cats, dogs, rabbits. By living in a dander-free home, his environmental allergies and eczema are much more under control with no medication. I also do a lot to keep the indoor air quality good-- weekly washing of sheets in hot water, mattresses and pillows in zippered cases, hepa air purifier in room. When I was young, I did not take my pet allergies seriously and they developed into a serious problem. So I think it should be...
Yay for being able to join in on that special day! What things worked for you so that you could manage your asthma and the cold? AAFA has some great information about the weather can be a trigger for asthma . Come join us on the forums and comment on "What do people say when you tell them you have asthma or allergies?"
It is very difficult to find holiday rentals in Tuscany that do not have or admit animals. We need to have our own travel website, where holiday homes that AVOID the major triggers for allergies and asthma are listed..... It is not always possible to avoid ALL triggers, but dust, mold, certain flowers, pets and smoke CAN be excluded. Doesn't anyone want to start a "Home Away" or "Airbnb" site that specifically caters to allergic individuals???
I like the awareness brought to people with SEA, and the checklist for doctors visits at the site! I have an eosinophil- related condition and asthma is one component of it (and the most difficult to deal with). My main trigger is pet dander (which I fervently avoid) but it is very hard when service dogs are allowed in the allergists office waiting room. I also take all the medications recommended, and still it is difficult. I am making progress though.
Always a good reminder! How do you clean outdoor and/or indoor trees? I hosed my outdoor house plant (A Norfolk Pine-- it isn't a true pine so Im hoping it isn't adding to my allergy issues like true pines might). I hosed it off really good and let it dry under my carport for a few days before I brought it in. It can hold small, light decorations/ornaments. I purchased a small fake tabletop tree this year. Im thinking each year I will use a wet soapy cloth and wipe each branch with it as I...
Shea - we do something similar with our live tree each year. We bring it home (this year it was curbside delivery!) and set it up on the deck outside in the tree stand. Then we give it a good shake (I stay in the house for this) and hose it down. We let it dry overnight before bringing it into the house. I'm not allergic to pine so it's more pollens and mold that might be clinging to the branches/needles. This seems to be sufficient for me. For artificial trees, off season storage is going...
Bleah, I hate to double post, but apparently it's been too long to edit since I was going back over the article to make sure I didn't miss anything. At any rate, just off the top of my head, I notice the following issues with this study (given the information presented in the blog; mayhaps the actual study addresses these?): 1) Number of participants: 223 2) The study was entirely self-report -- no control groups, no accounting for bias, wasn't double-blind, etc. etc. The article makes it...
I keep finding conflicting recommendations from places online about whether or not those with asthma or other breathing issues should wear a face covering. Normally, my asthma is mostly just set off by mold or the heat (or both, because mold is a real **** when it gets hot and humid outside), but since becoming pregnant, it's just been all around bad and hard to breathe in general. I try to minimize the amount I use my inhaler, but all of the disinfectants in use haven't been helping any,...
People suffering from severe to moderate asthma are considered at high risk of getting infected from the coronavirus. The virus affects your respiratory tract, and most probably, it can trigger an asthma attack. There is also a possibility that the situation gets more critical and led to pneumonia and acute respiratory disease. Pharmaceutical companies are still working on the COVID19 mediation, and it will take a few months to be available in the market. So, the best way to avoid getting...
@BenR Secondhand smoke from cigarettes, cannabis, and anything else that burns is indeed problematic for folks with asthma. If and when possible, those with a legal prescription could use other forms of marijuana (e.g. edibles) which would avoid the trigger (i.e. smoke) that affects so many people.
