WWe are most grateful for this article! My lungs do not know the difference between "essential"oils and other fragrances AKA chemicals. Please consider using the standard that NO smell is the good smell...we need to breathe unadulterated air! Rid our environment from chemical odors found in personal products, detergents/fabric softener, plug-ins, household cleaners and the like. Additionally, our children will benefit from a clean air environment!
What an incredible way to honor your beautiful son's life. Meredith, I am so inspired by your courage and strength to use this tragedy to bring awareness to others. You are one amazing mom. Thank you for sharing Austin's story, and yours. Blessings to your family as you work to protect the lives of other children with asthma in his honor.
Dear Meredith, Thank you for so very much for sharing your son's story. My heart goes out to you and your family for the loss of your beautiful son and for turning his tragic loss into something positive that will help others living with asthma. Those of us with children who have asthma thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Warmly, Lynda
Dear Deborah, You have my deepest sympathy on your loss. Only another parent, like Meredith, can truly understand the loss of a child. Nothing we - or anyone - can say will make it easier. Nothing is going to replace your son, or make his passing less frustrating. But you may find that channeling your pain can help - not only for you, your family and friends, but all the other spouses, children, friends and colleagues who may be living with asthma, know someone intimately at risk, or may...
I think this is a great topic, and National Healthy School Days is a great way to educate children, parents, teachers, and the community on asthma and allergies. I think it would be worth noting the studies on second-hand dander and how it significantly affects children with asthma and allergies in schools (i.e. the study thst shows the more cat owners in classroom there are, the worse prognosis with kids with allergies and asthma). I think having individual lockers outside classrooms for...
I have asthma. This morning I went to a friend’s home and they had their essential oils diffuser on. I don’t know which essential oil they were using, but within 5 minutes of breathing it my lungs felt like they were on fire and I couldn’t breath. Once I got outside I started to improve. I had to use albuterol because I was still struggling to breathe. I’ve always heard positive things about essential oils, but after doing a little research today, I’ve decided not to diffuse them in my home.
Given these terrible statistics, why isn't AAFA and CAPP aggressively working to stop this dangerous and potentially deadly problem of dogs and other pets being brought into public buildings and stores and in public buildings? These children aren't just confined to their homes. Why not designate/certify stores and buildings as "asthma and allergy friendly"? In fact, stores, businesses and public transportation companies are violating the ADA rights of people with asthma, allergies and...
The opening statement is such a powerful message, "it is important for everyone to exercise, even if you have asthma." These children are so engaged and in touch with their symptoms. It is great to hear them talking about the preventive measures they are taking in their daily lives; I love how we can all use technology now to help too - like an app to measure pollen counts and air quality days.
I'm really sorry to hear about your family's allergies and asthma, as well. It is so scary, especially with children. We have multiple family members with various allergies and four that have/had life-threatening asthmatic reactions to dander. I am here to try to find other like-minded sufferers to help us mobilize a legal effort to put a stop to this out of control problem of dogs and other animals in public buildings, stores and on public transportation. It seems like the dander issue is...
Since a pitbull attacked a child in an airport recently in my state, and the airline said the person presented a letter that was not verified as their proof of the animal being a "service animal", I am terrified of these dogs. I encountered a pitbull in a grocery store several months ago, and the owner knew he was not supposed to have the dog in the store. However, since there was no checker or security around, he took advantage of the opportunity to let his pitbull accompany him on his...
