That's a great question - why do asthma flares peak in September? It's the height of ragweed season in many areas, mold counts are rise as leaves start to fall, flu season starts, and kids head back to school and pass around respiratory viruses like colds. Also school buildings that have been closed all summer may have a build up of other allergens and irritants. All of these can be asthma triggers. COVID precautions in schools (masks, distancing, increased airflow) may help reduce some of...
Excellent question. There's more than one type of rhinitis (or nasal allergies). Allergic rhinitis is caused by an allergen (for example, pollen or dust). Non-allergic rhinitis is caused by other things like chemicals or a deviated septum (i.e. physical nose defect) to name a few.
Side effects of any Rx - medication is concerning to me as I have documented drugs that I have worse side effects to. Montelukast Rx I've been taking for about 2 yrs for allergic asthma, also, inhaler, nebulizer treatments, for when my allergic asthma is at worse of pollen season. I also use hepa air filters, change filter on my A/C, protective covers on my pillows, mattresses. To date, I've not had bad side effects to Montelukast. However, back in 1988, my allergic asthma was really bad,...
Though I live in an apt, which has no attic nor basement, in Florida. Recently, I bought a new, updated extra large Honeywell HEPA air cleaning machine. The unit is off the floor, on top of flat box, to help the unit clean the air in my room. Its quiet, this HEAPA unit has 4 settings, more quiet running than older Honeywell units. Even though it Nov. 2021 - here in Orlando, FL its warm,, with cold weather front coming down this weekend. I don't run the HEPA air filter machine when its cooler...
Welcome, @GilbertoF . It's good to have you here in the AAFA community. An interesting question! Your report lists sensitivity to the pollens of English plantain, ragweed, and goosefoot. That has nothing to say about whether you are allergic to cannabis pollen, something rare in any location, I think. As 'Ask the Allergist' says above, allergy to marijuana is possible but more likely connected to smoking it.
My location Orlando, FL , January '2022 - in the local weather news - tree pollen is in 9.0 red zone outside. Inside I've experienced asthma attacks, sneezing, running nose, etc. I made sure to run my hepa air filters having new pre-charcoal filters, new air filter on the heat/A/C filter, though I don't use A/C nor heat during Dec - March & maybe April in my apt. The A/C helps during the spring, summer & fall in Central FL. Vacuum my bed, clean the carpet in bedroom, wash pillow...
Absolutely love the graphs/charts! Living in Michigan the pollen here is an astronomic amount. Once again, we bring allergens in if we open a door to our home or it can be on our clothes and recirculated in our HVAC systems. Everyone waits for Spring here in Michigan, but along with climate change comes allergies.
Thank you for posting this information. I appreciate it! I live close to number 8. My mother lives in number 10. Now we can start preparing for seasonal allergy issues. 👍
Obviously the writer has never spent a spring or fall in Portland, OR. Constant sneezing, runny/watery itchy eyes, runny/stuffy nose, and general tiredness. Every year! Without a stop. When the TREES bloom, When the FLOWERS and the GARDEN bloom, when the late spring early fall GRASSES grow. It can be miserable.
