Shea - we do something similar with our live tree each year. We bring it home (this year it was curbside delivery!) and set it up on the deck outside in the tree stand. Then we give it a good shake (I stay in the house for this) and hose it down. We let it dry overnight before bringing it into the house. I'm not allergic to pine so it's more pollens and mold that might be clinging to the branches/needles. This seems to be sufficient for me. For artificial trees, off season storage is going...
You need to start with the low income children's homes. How do you research mold growing on drywall and burst pipes in low incomes children's actual home? Mold is first a low income problem. The pipes and buildings are getting old. Not considering investigating mold is giving the poor a death sentence!
I’m hyper sensitive to second hand smoke. Is there anything that can be done or taken to reduce symptoms? The second hand smoke comes in through the central air system in my house from the outside air (individuals smoking on their own property). I have a whole house air purifier.
Welcome, @Tawny ! Someone else's smoke no matter how remote is our problem to deal with. You're in good company with the AAFA community. Could you post this question as a new topic in either the Asthma Support or Allergy Support forums? Then we can have an extended discussion back and forth. We'll tag some of the people who contributed to Dealing with smoke allergies and asthma when neighbours smoke and find some practical ideas for you. Again, welcome! We're glad you found us.
I’m not sure the flu comparison is terribly helpful here. There is a flu vaccine which at least keeps some types of flu at bay, if not all. Despite the fact that we are generally familiar with coronaviruses, there is much we still don’t know about this one. For example, there seem to be indicators that people are spreading the virus while asymptomatic, but no one is sure how. If this is indeed the case, then that makes infection control much more difficult. I’m worried about my baby. She’s...
I keep finding conflicting recommendations from places online about whether or not those with asthma or other breathing issues should wear a face covering. Normally, my asthma is mostly just set off by mold or the heat (or both, because mold is a real **** when it gets hot and humid outside), but since becoming pregnant, it's just been all around bad and hard to breathe in general. I try to minimize the amount I use my inhaler, but all of the disinfectants in use haven't been helping any,...
CVS is selling this generic albuterol from GSK as a Preferred Brand Name Tier 3 drug to Medicare patients. Same copay as Advair! The box has no brand name on it. GSK says Prasco is distributing it and they set the prices. According to the article in AAFA the authorized generic has a list price of less than $36. The copay CVS/Aetna is charging to Silverscript Smart RX patients is $46!!! More than list price. CVS is claiming it is Ventolin, but that is not on the package because it is a...

Thank you for this summary. Such important initiatives to Champion! Pets/ESA/manipulative use of animal in public use business spaces by the public and animal owners in AIRLINERS (especially closed spaces) and event store/shop/retail/restaurant space businesses. Has been long, long, overdue. This has been extremely harmful for the disability population as we have seen. An application of service animal needed to be made OR ENFORCED. By large business associations and large companies, only way...
We agree with you, lori 1022. The problem spans all aspects of life: education, housing, work, transportation, medical care, recreation and basic activities of daily living. We need laws to protect people who are allergic and/or anxious, as there is direct discrimination even in the laws that are written. People are taking their dogs everywhere, because first the legal system allowed them to, and then it became socially acceptable. The media has become an enormous partner in the problem,...
Hi Nicolle, School nurses are a vital part of the care team to help manage a child's asthma at school. Taking a coordinated team approach with the school nurse managing things at school is the best way to keep children safe at school. The nurse can communicate with both parents and teachers. They have a nursing background but are also part of the educational team. Every child with asthma should have an asthma action plan and some need additional accommodations in an IHCP or 504 plan and the...
