Finally a serious legislative action on this problem. We all know air quality in schools is horrible and this is now becoming an even bigger issue with Covid-19. There should be good air purifiers in every school.

Hi Escabello - Dr. Grayson stated above that there is no known risk of poor outcome from taking corticosteroids. There is more risk if your asthma is not well controlled. For that reason, the recommendation is to continue taking your asthma medicine and if you have concerns, talk to your son's doctor.

This isn't surprising. Ventolin-type bronchodilator inhalers are always used in people experiencing significant "breathing problems" related to respiratory infections such as flu, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc., who don't have underlying respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD, etc. Why would COVID-19 be any different? I hope every asthmatic has the medication they need. On my end, I have two new Teva-Salbutamol HFA inhalers (unused in the box) on hand as well as the Teva-Salbutamol HFA...

AAFA, would you please intensify and increase the advocacy efforts to get dogs out of public buildings on behalf of us who have severe dander-triggered asthma? We still have to shop at grocery stores for essential items like food and paper products and the dander in these stores will necessitate albuterol usage that would not otherwise be necessary if people's pet dogs and fake "service" animals were not allowed in stores! I've had to "waste" my albuterol nearly every time I enter one...

Hi Laurie, Thanks for commenting. We are of course aware of the growing number pets in public spaces and the negative impacts on those with severe dander-triggered asthma. We actively advocate to Congress to ensure that the needs of the asthma and allergy community are considered all the time, but especially in this time of crisis I know you are aware of the current proposed rule on Traveling by Air With Service Animals and we believe this is a good first step in recognizing the fraudulent...

On April 16, 2020, we updated this blog post to include the following: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a generic version of Proventil HFA, a commonly used albuterol inhaler , to help with the demand for albuterol. AAFA has also asked the FDA to address albuterol shortages due to COVID-19 .

Can I ask a question about this line in the editorial? "These data come from hospitalized patients where the use of systemic corticosteroids after onset of the disease as a treatment for COVID-19 demonstrated a poorer outcome. There are no data available on a risk for those taking corticosteroids (orally or inhaled) for their asthma and a risk of poor outcome from COVID-19." It seems to be saying that those who took corticosteroids as a treatment for COVID seemed to have a poorer outcome.

The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are both appropriate for adults over the age of 18 (Pfizer's can be given to teens/adults at 16 years old and up). Now, if you're coughing and choking because you have COVID, you should hold off on getting the vaccine until you feel better ( per the CDC ). If you are coughing and choking because you have an allergies (e.g., pollen, peanuts, pineapple, etc), you can still get the vaccine. That said, if you are allergic to any of the specific...

This is good information, thank you (and to USA2 below as well!) I am all about the: "have someone else clean for you" option.... Do you think medicare will cover that? I would like a Rosie Robot. I guess I can learn to mix things and make cleaners... I have found some that bother me less than others.. Like the seventh generation brand and the mrs meyers-- I aim for the unscented. Good to know about vinegar not killing covid. Does hot steam? (Did I miss that part?) .....this is motivating me...
